A Day In The Life Typically Includes:
The Maintenance Superintendent will be responsible for supervising a team of multi-craft and support staff personnel. This includes predictive, preventive and proactive maintenance analysis as well as designing and implementing long-term continuous improvement applications and systems to enhance reliability.
  • Lead a Lumber Mill Maintenance team to work injury-free/incident free in a manufacturing environment consistent with MBM management philosophy and framework
  • Supervise/coordinate maintenance efforts that drive improvement in all associated work processes affecting EHS, compliance, reliability, quality, production and costs
  • Support the production processes to align and optimize the manufacturing enterprise in delivering value to the business
  • Facilitate team development and growth, employee skill development, problem-solving and resolution, building employee commitment and ownership and holding employees accountable
  • Drive safety excellence through promoting employee involvement, ownership, and accountability to proactively identify hazards and implement the appropriate mitigating strategies based on the risk involved
  • Monitor the quality of craft work and provide direction to crew members to maximize efficiency
  • Assist with troubleshooting production issues
  • Provide safety training to crew members; coaching; team development/performance management
  • Lead and support continuous improvement processes through decision making, employee involvement, systems and training.
  • Drive preventative and predictive maintenance and work with other managers to ensure proper maintenance scheduling.
  • Work with the facility operations group to increase reliability while improving plant performance.
  • Assure safe work place practices are followed at all times to include driving safety awareness through leading by example.
  • Provides leadership and direction to the maintenance department responsible for repair as well as maintenance of machines, tools, and equipment and drives in manufacturing operations.
  • Directs maintenance supervisors and support personnel in roles, responsibilities and expectations to meet plant objectives in safety, quality, cost, and customer service.
  • Provides leadership in implementing and or maintaining preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Ensures appropriate inventory levels for standard replacement parts are maintained.
  • Provides technical support for efficient troubleshooting and or problem solving activities to maximize efficiencies and limit downtime.
  • Ensures that a follow-up analysis is completed to identify and resolve recurring downtime and or inefficient operational issues.
  • Ensures mandatory inspections, certifications and appropriate laws and regulations are adhered to. Ensures environmental compliance.
  • Effectively communicates results and action plans to appropriate employees and managers.
  • Collaborates directly with human resources to ensure employee issues or concerns are correctly addressed and resolved.
  • Collaborates with finance to create and execute a maintenance and capital budget to ensure that financial allocations and obligations are set, administered and met.
  • Works as part of a team to support the Coos Bay mill effort to safely improve the maintenance department and drive reliability by applying reliability principles such as Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) to identify the appropriate predicative and Preventative maintenance procedures.
What You Will Need:
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent degree required.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience as a maintenance leader in an industrial environment.
  • Experience in leading improvement efforts in Reliability, and Predictive and Preventive Maintenance
  • Experience planning and scheduling maintenance activities
  • Experience utilizing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) or other similar problem-solving tools
  • Experience utilizing a Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Working knowledge and experience with MS Word and Excel, and other PC-based production and maintenance reporting applications
  • Must be able and willing to work in a manufacturing plant environment, including extended periods of time in dusty, noisy, non-air conditioned or unheated areas
  • Must be able and willing to work safely, and promote and enforce safe work practices
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, overtime and holidays as required
What Will Put You Ahead?
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a technical field
  • Two (2) or more years of maintenance supervisory experience in an industrial or military environment
  • Electrical knowledge with direct repair and preventative maintenance of industrial equipment and machine electrical systems
  • Able to read mechanical, structural and electrical drawings
