Unit Support Specialist-OP Cardiology -ON-CALL-VARIED SHIFTS

POSITION SUMMARY
Provides front office support for the hospital department.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Greets, assists and directs patients, visitors, physicians and staff, as appropriate
Performs basic office/clerical support to a unit/department. May include: scheduling, patient intake, prioritizing requests and processing orders, maintaining medical records (both electronic and paper), scanning and faxing documents, answering telephone line(s), relaying messages, contacting physician offices as necessary
Utilizes various hospital electronic systems for reporting, inputting, order entry, billing/compliance, and retrieving various information and reports
Works with the department team to ensure supplies are ordered/available, cupboards are appropriately stocked, work areas are clean, and halls are clear
Performs quality assurance monitoring on medical records and unit activities, as directed by director/manager
Assist staff, physicians, supervisors, managers and directors with various tasks and errands, as requested
On nursing units:
May assign patients/phones to staff as directed by charge nurse, forward calls to individual phones, help resolve nurse locator issues, and monitor status of patient calls and staff response
May manage assignment boards and nurse call system
May assist with meal trays and inform nurse of patient's food/fluid intake
May escort patients at discharge
Minimum Requirements
SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Demonstrates the ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position
Demonstrates the ability to operate applicable office equipment
Exhibits the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public; excellent telephone skills
Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision
Demonstrates effective response to patient crisis/ emergency situations
Strong priority-setting and organizational skills
Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
Basic administrative skills
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES

Ability to read, write legibly, and converse effectively in the English language
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Completion of basic medical terminology class preferred
EXPERIENCE

One year clerical experience in hospital or medical front office preferred

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
