Director of Nursing Operations - PCS - FT - DAYS

POSITION SUMMARY
Collaborates with and supports the Chief Nursing Officer to accomplish the objectives of the Patient Care Services Division and overall strategic plan of the hospital. Directs the day-to-day operation of the division to ensure effective leadership, staff productivity, sound employee relations, responsible fiscal practices, and efficient, safe, effective, high-quality patient care.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Evaluates the process and effectiveness of overall patient care in the division in collaboration with unit managers
Assists managers in establishment of departmental goals for service, patient care, and patient safety
Monitors progress towards established goals and reports to CNO
Oversees development, progress towards, and reporting of quality measures for individual units and division as a whole
Works with managers and CNO to ensure regulatory, licensing, and accreditation requirements related to patient care and documentation are being met. Assists in formulation of remediation plans, when indicated
Participates in development of division/department policies and procedures
Works cooperatively with Executive Team and other hospital directors and managers to integrate activities of individual PCS units into a high-functioning whole and remove barriers to effective performance
Develops and maintains effective working relationships with peers, staff, physicians and other members of the health care team
Rounds on units regularly and maintains "open door policy" to foster constructive communication with staff
Advocates for and supports PCS managers
Selects, trains, coaches, supports, and evaluates PCS managers
Establishes performance objectives, assessment measures, and improvement plans for managers
Completes and documents a timely annual evaluation for each PCS manager
Builds and supports a collaborative, committed leadership team within the division.
Supports and assists managers, as needed, with conflict resolution processes, including but not limited to corrective action, union relations, and other personnel issues
Collaborates with Human Resources and Education to ensure development/offering of educational opportunities that meets the needs of PCS managers and staff
Actively participates in the budgeting process:
Evaluates managers' capital requests against revenue statistics
Assists PCS managers with development of individual unit budgets
Monitors unit operating budgets and analyzes monthly.
In collaboration with unit managers, initiates corrective actions as needed to meet productivity and quality targets/benchmarks
Provides budget analyses and variance summaries to CNO
Participates in select internal committees and task forces to address organizational and clinical issues
Represents the needs and goals of the Hospital through participation in community organizations
Participates in appropriate professional organizations to improve knowledge and practice within the field. Applies knowledge gained through continuing education to improve operations within the Hospital
Assumes duties and responsibilities of the CNO when the CNO is absent
Utilizes quality improvement methodologies to drive quality improvement metrics, HCAHPS scores and regulatory compliance

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Proficient in quality improvement methodologies
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES

Licensed as Registered Nurse in the state of Oregon
Master's degree in nursing or health-related field
Bachelor's degree in nursing
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) or must obtain within 60-days of hire date
EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 8 years clinical experience in an acute care hospital in the last 10 years
Minimum of 5 years clinical experience
Minimum 5 years managerial experience
Experience in project management and organizational development preferred
Lean experience preferred

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
