CNA2 - Post Surgical Unit - FT-DAYS

Collects objective patient data, provides patient care and comfort measures within scope of practice and as assigned by a licensed nurse. Reports observations of patient and outcome of data-gathering and care activities to licensed nurse. Documents appropriately in medical record. Monitors and adjusts patient and assists in activities of daily living. Adds safety to the patient who demonstrates behavior detrimental towards self or others.

Understands the CNA2 scope of practice and accepts assignments from licensed nurse consistent with scope of practice
Gathers patient data ? vital signs, height and weight, intake, output, pain levels; uses appropriate powered and manual equipment to gather data (e.g. electronic vital signs monitors, digital scales)
Obtains specimens (within scope of practice); performs point-of-care tests for capillary blood glucose, occult blood, urine screening, other point-of-care tests within scope of practice and for which competency has been demonstrated and documented
Assists patient with activities of daily living ? personal care/grooming, mobility, nutrition and hydration, skin care, elimination, use of assistive devices, range of motion exercises, positioning. Employs safe patient handling equipment as needed.
Assists with complementary therapies for pain relief
Performs other tasks as assigned, e.g. applying sequential compression devices, assisting with warm/cold therapies, bladder scanning, reinforcing use of incentive spirometer, assisting with turning/coughing/deep breathing exercises, emptying drainage devices, applying and removing restraints.
Answers patient call lights, promptly reports patient requests outside of CNA2 scope of practice to licensed nurse
Communicates clearly, completely, and concisely to licensed nurse regarding physical status of patient, care and comfort measures delivered, data collected, changes in patient condition, observations, and patient statements about condition or care
Documents care and observations in medical record clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner
Maintains patient safety from self and environment
Gives clear simple directions to patient, reinforces teaching and orientation to the patient
Follows direction from the Registered Nurse about safety for the patient and the environment of care
Assists patients in and out of continuous passive motion machine
Sets up traction and overhead frame/trapeze
Sets up room, including supplies and equipment, for newly admitted patient/newly admitted post-operative patient
Works with the unit team to ensure cupboards are appropriately stocked, work areas and patient care rooms/areas are tidy and free of clutter, halls are clear
Cleans unit-specific equipment removed from patient room
Minimum Requirements

Able to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position
Deals effectively interdepartmentally & with the public
Maintains confidentiality
Demonstrates ability to organize work effectively
Provides care that is appropriate to and respectful of patient's age, culture, and spiritual needs
Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
Excellent telephone skills
Recognizes and reports abnormal occurrences
Knows the fire plan and escape routes for patient and self

Ability to read, write legibly, and converse effectively in the English language
Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant 2 in the State of Oregon
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) or must obtain by the last day of the month after 60-days of hire date
Thorough knowledge of medical terminology preferred
High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Experience in hospital as a CNA2 within the past two years preferred

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
