POSITION SUMMARY
When working as a CNA2: Collects objective patient data, provides patient care and comfort measures within scope of practice for a CNA2 and as assigned by a licensed nurse. Reports observations of patient and outcome of data-gathering and care activities to licensed nurse. Documents appropriately in medical record. When working as a Unit Secretary: Coordinates unit activities in collaboration with charge nurse/manager. Facilitates smooth running of the unit by performing clerical, reception, computer entry/processing, and organizational duties. When working as a Patient Safety Assistant: Monitors and adjusts environment to maintain safety in the environment of care. At the direction of the RN, may assist to feed the patient and assist in activities of daily living. The safety assistant is for the added safety of the patient who demonstrates behavior detrimental towards self or others.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

CNA2 Acute Care duties ? Summary
Understands the CNA2 scope of practice and accepts assignments from licensed nurse consistent with scope of practice
Gathers patient data, i.e. vital signs, height and weight, output, pain levels
Obtains specimens and performs point-of-care tests within scope of practice and for which competency has been demonstrated and documented
Assists patient with activities of daily living, i.e. nutrition and hydration, personal care, use of assistive devices, mobility; employs safe patient handling equipment as needed.
Assists with complementary therapies for pain relief
Performs other tasks as assigned, e.g. applying sequential compression devices, assisting with warm/cold therapies, bladder scanning, reinforcing use of incentive spirometer, assisting with turning/coughing/deep breathing exercises, emptying drainage devices, applying and removing restraints
Answers patient call lights, promptly reports patient requests outside of CNA2 scope of practice to licensed nurse
Communicates clearly, completely, and concisely to licensed nurse regarding physical status of patient, care and comfort measures delivered, data collected, changes in patient condition, observations, and patient statements about condition or care
Documents care and observations in medical record clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner
Places leads and electrodes for telemetry
Monitors Hugs tag system
Responds appropriately to pediatric security alarm
Adheres to all safety precautions involving chemo/biohazards, handling waste products
Performs initial steps in chemo skill response; assists RN with clean-up as directed
Unit Secretary duties
Serves as a receptionist for the unit by answering phones, transferring calls, relaying messages promptly and accurately, directing/assisting visitors
Utilizes Soarian and the electronic medical record to input, retrieve, and cross-check data, run reports
Processes paper orders and medical record components, as needed, including scanning and faxing documents, preparing patient discharge paperwork, and preparing chart for transport of patient to another facility
Manages nurse call system: assigns patients/Cisco phones to staff as directed by charge nurse, forwards calls to individual phones, helps resolve nurse locator issues, monitors status of patient calls and staff response via computer
Utilizes various electronic communication systems, i.e. MedStan, InRoster, Maintenance Connection, AS400 Memo function
Utilizes AS400 system to manage patient bed/admit/acuity status, send messages, and enter charges
Transports specimens/supplies/documents by hand or via pneumatic tube, retrieves blood products from Blood Bank
Works with the unit team to ensure cupboards are appropriately stocked, work areas are clean, tidy, and free of clutter, halls are clear
Assists physicians, as requested, with Soarian and the electronic medical record
Performs quality assurance monitoring on medical records and unit activities, as directed by manager
Patient Safety Assistant duties
Maintains patient safety from self and environment
Gives clear simple directions to patient, reinforces teaching and orientation to the patient
Follows direction from the Registered Nurse about safety for the patient and the environment of care
Maintain and enforce strict patient confidentiality and respect patient and family rights
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to read, write legibly, and converse effectively in the English language
Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
Able to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position
Deals effectively interdepartmentally & with the public
Maintains confidentiality
Provides care that is appropriate to and respectful of patient's age, culture, and spiritual needs
Strong priority-setting and organizational skills
Excellent telephone skills
Recognizes and reports abnormal occurrences
Knows the fire plan and escape routes for patient and self
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES

Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant 2 in the State of Oregon
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) or must obtain within 60-days of hire date
Non-violent crisis intervention certification preferred
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
EXPERIENCE

Effective communication skills both verbally and written
Experience in acute care hospital as a CNA2 within the past two years preferred
One year experience in unit secretary role in acute care hospital preferred
Recent (within past two years) acute care hospital experience preferred

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
